The "Simple" Business Model That Replaced My Nurse Lecturer Salary
Updated: Jul 21

I want to tell you something that might sound too simple to be true: business doesn't need to be complicated.
I built a business model that replaced my income as a nurse lecturer.
I teach 7 Pilates classes a week, on days and times that suit me, with a steady flow of over 100 clients coming through those classes every week. That's it, that's the model.
Why I never took on my own studio
Over the years I've had plenty of chances to scale up and take on my own studio space. I didn't. And it wasn't because I couldn't make it work it's because I simply didn't want to.
If I'd taken on a studio, I'd have needed to sublet it to other instructors or classes just to cover the cost of the space. That's more admin, more people to manage, more things that can go wrong. I didn't want that.
Instead, I built relationships with great community venues over the years. I get access to spaces because people trust me and know me not because I'm locked into a lease. I turn up, I teach my classes, I go home. Simple.
What that simplicity actually bought me
This simple business model model has given me a massive amount of time time to care for my daughter, my horses, and to live a genuinely stress-free life. That's the real return on keeping things simple. Not more classes, more money or more stress.
The stuff that actually keeps clients for years
People ask how I've kept clients for 6 years, since the day I started. It's not one big clever strategy. It's a collection of small things done consistently:
- An automated booking system, so there's zero hassle for me or for them clients manage their own classes through my website or app.
- I take the time to actually get to know my clients and chat with them. Not rushed, not transactional.
- A free class on their birthday. Small, but it says I see you.
- An online library they can access anytime.
- We've just launched a walking and social group, so the community goes beyond the mat.
- At certain points in the year, I run a buy 6 classes, get 1 free offer a thank you, not a gimmick.
None of this is revolutionary. It's just consistent care, delivered the same way, week after week, year after year.
The bit that actually matters: trust
I got known locally. Not through a big marketing push, but by showing up, being reliable, and building a reputation people could rely on. I built a community based on trust and that trust is the whole business.
If you're building something and feel like you need to complicate it to make it "real"you don't. Get known. Look after people properly. Make the boring admin stuff automated so you can focus on the part that matters. That's it.
Why I'm telling you this?
Because so many mums in business think they need to scale, hire, launch five offers, and be everywhere online before it counts as "real." I built a fully booked business without any of that. Simplicity was the strategy.
If you're a mum in business in Lanarkshire and you want to build something that fits your life instead of swallowing it, that's exactly what we talk about inside LBMN.
£24 a month, no contract, just a community of women doing this together.
Business doesn't need to be complicated and you dont need to scale it if you are happy where you are !
